About This UF GPA Calculator
The UF GPA Calculator uses the official grade point value scale published by the University of Florida Office of the University Registrar, in effect since Summer A 2009. UF grades on a plus/minus scale from A (4.0) down to E (0.0), with grade points at each plus/minus increment: A- = 3.67, B+ = 3.33, B = 3.00, and so on down through D- = 0.67.
One detail that trips up many UF students: the university does not round your GPA — it's truncated to two decimal places. A computed GPA of 3.248, for instance, is officially recorded as 3.24, not 3.25. This calculator replicates that exact behavior so the number you see matches what appears on your official UF transcript and in ONE.UF.
How GPA Is Calculated at UF
Like most universities, UF calculates GPA using the standard weighted-average formula:
- Quality Points = Letter Grade value × Credit Hours, for each course
- Semester GPA = Total Quality Points ÷ Total Credit Hours for the semester
- Cumulative GPA = (Previous Quality Points + Current Quality Points) ÷ (Previous Credits + Current Credits)
Where Previous Quality Points = Previous Cumulative GPA × Previous Total Credits. UF then truncates (rather than rounds) the final result to two decimal places for official reporting.

UF Truncates, It Doesn't Round, Your GPA
One of the most distinctive features of the UF grading system is that the official GPA calculation is truncated to the hundredths place, not rounded. UF's own catalog gives the example: a computed GPA of 3.248 is officially displayed as 3.24, not rounded up to 3.25.
This matters most right at the edges of GPA-based thresholds — for scholarships, Latin honors, or program admission requirements — where a difference of a single hundredth of a point (like 3.499 truncating to 3.49 instead of rounding to 3.50) can change your eligibility. This calculator replicates UF's exact truncation behavior so your result matches your official record.
UF Academic Standing and Dean's List
UF undergraduates are expected to maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 to remain in good academic standing; falling below this threshold can result in academic probation. UF's Dean's List recognizes students who achieve a semester GPA of 3.5 or higher while carrying a full course load, and is announced separately by each UF college at the end of fall and spring terms.
Because UF's grading scale includes D+ and D- (unlike some universities that skip those increments), and because UF truncates rather than rounds, always cross-check any threshold-sensitive calculation (Dean's List, scholarship renewal, graduate school minimums) against your official UF transcript in ONE.UF.
Who Uses This Calculator?
- ✓UF undergraduates tracking their semester and cumulative GPA progress
- ✓Students checking whether they're on track for UF's Dean's List (3.5 semester GPA)
- ✓Students on academic probation calculating the GPA needed to return to good standing
- ✓Prospective UF students and transfer students understanding the Gator grading scale
- ✓Graduate and professional school applicants computing their UF undergraduate GPA for applications
Limitations & Notes
Known Limitations
- •S-U (Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory) graded courses and grades like I (Incomplete) or WF are not included — this calculator covers standard letter-graded courses only.
- •Some UF colleges (e.g. certain graduate or professional programs) apply additional GPA rules beyond the general undergraduate scale — check with your college for specifics.
- •This is a planning tool; your official GPA of record is always the one shown in ONE.UF and on your official transcript.
Tips
- →Pull exact credit hours and grades from your UF ONE.UF transcript for the most accurate result.
- →Remember UF truncates your GPA rather than rounding — a 3.499 semester GPA will not round up to 3.50 for Dean's List purposes.
- →If you have an Incomplete (I) grade, resolve it before relying on your semester GPA for time-sensitive decisions like Dean's List or scholarship renewal.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Does UF use a 4.0 GPA scale?
- Yes, UF uses a 4.0 grading scale with plus/minus grades. The scale runs: A = 4.00, A- = 3.67, B+ = 3.33, B = 3.00, B- = 2.67, C+ = 2.33, C = 2.00, C- = 1.67, D+ = 1.33, D = 1.00, D- = 0.67, E = 0.00. UF does not award an A+.
- Does UF round or truncate GPA?
- UF truncates GPA to two decimal places rather than rounding. Per the official UF Registrar policy, a computed GPA of 3.248 is displayed as 3.24, not rounded to 3.25. This calculator replicates that exact truncation.
- What GPA do I need for the UF Dean's List?
- UF's Dean's List generally requires a semester GPA of 3.5 or higher while enrolled full-time, though exact criteria are set by each individual UF college. Check with your specific college for its precise requirements.
- What is the minimum GPA to stay in good standing at UF?
- UF undergraduates are generally expected to maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0. Falling below this threshold can result in academic probation; consult UF's academic regulations or your academic advisor for the specific policy that applies to your program.
- Does UF have D+ and D- grades?
- Yes. Unlike some universities that skip minus/plus grades in the D range, UF's scale includes D+ (1.33), D (1.00), and D- (0.67) as distinct grade points.
- Where can I find my official UF GPA?
- Your official GPA is available through ONE.UF (the UF student information system) and on your official transcript. This calculator is a planning tool — always verify your official GPA through UF's official systems before relying on it for applications, scholarships, or academic decisions.
